Alice Manderson
Alice is finishing her degree in Professional Communications (majoring in media and minoring in Cinema Studies) after changing from a Media degree to broaden her skill sets.
She is passionate about online and pop cultures, film auteurs, and loves the zoo and pole dancing!
Being an ENFP (campaigner), Alice translates into work by being idea focused and focalising the human aspect in project development.
Once dubbed “the mum of the group”, within the Capitolists Alice was a primary researcher and a key contributor for creative direction and idea development. Leading on the writing elements of the project, Alice wrote the article for Catalyst magazine, presentation scripts and written aspects of the assessments.
This project was insightful for Alice by providing practical experience in the communications field, as it exercised team management skills such as compromise, adaptability and cohesion, as well as providing a real-world client with a tangible problem. Of note, Alice was struck by how the team’s own research highlighted a deeper problem to rectify than was presented in the original client brief. This stressed the value of conducting one’s own research to get to the root of the issues, which is an insight that will be valuable for the rest of her education and career.
Alice currently juggles working in communications for RMIT’s Mental Health and Wellbeing team, for the Judith Nielsen Institute’s project ‘Community Voices’, for 3ZZZ radio and as a waitress (for the cardio). She wants to continue working diversely within the communications field, hoping to work towards being an intimacy coordinator on media productions before eventually earning a PhD and teaching.
